Data and Privacy FAQs

Data and Privacy FAQs

These answers summarize Think of Us data practices across programs. Details may differ by activity. Our full Privacy and Cookies Policy is available at https://www.thinkofus.org/privacy.

‍

Why does Think of Us ask for my information?

‍

We use it to respond to your request, connect you with support, administer a program or grant, and improve our services. The information needed depends on what you are doing with us.

‍

Do I have to answer every question?

‍

No. We explain when information is optional and when a service needs certain details. For example, we may need payment information to issue a grant.

‍

If I apply for a Micro Cash Grant, am I joining a research study?

‍

No. A grant application is separate from a research study or interview. Applying does not guarantee an award. If we invite you to share your experience separately, we explain that choice and any payment for your time.

‍

Will saying no to an optional interview affect my support?

‍

No. Declining optional research, storytelling, or later contact does not affect access to the support you originally requested.

‍

Who can see my information?

‍

Authorized Think of Us staff and, when needed for a service, authorized partners or service providers. Access and sharing depend on the program, agreements, and applicable law.

‍

Does AI decide whether I qualify for help?

‍

No. Some programs use AI to help staff prepare information or suggestions. Staff remain responsible for decisions and review consequential outputs.

‍

How do you handle information about children and young people?

‍

We follow the rules that apply to the program and law when determining who may provide or authorize information. We explain direct participation in age-appropriate language. We do not use their program information for advertising or marketing.

‍

Will you publish my story or quote me?

‍

We explain identifiable storytelling or quotation uses and ask for permission through the relevant invitation or consent process. A request for support alone does not authorize publication of your story.

‍

How long do you keep my information?

‍

The period depends on the program and applicable legal, funding, and contractual requirements. We keep information for as long as needed for those purposes. Contact us about a specific record or program.

‍

Can I see, correct, or delete my information?

‍

Depending on the circumstances and law, you may request access, correction, a copy, deletion, or limits on certain uses. We may verify your identity. Some information may need to remain on file for legal or program reasons.

‍

How do I stop emails or ask a privacy question?

‍

Use the unsubscribe link in optional emails. Service or account messages may continue while you have an active request.
